Magical Image Digesting Duck

Magical Image Digesting Duck

By Dan Gould on June 25, 2008

Artist Taeyoon Choi believes that the act of taking pictures has become a chore, a “tedious act from yesterday”. He questions why, in this age of labor reducing gadgets is there not an everyday camera that can take pictures by itself?

With his latest project, Choi has come up with a novel and whimsical solution to this dilemma. He’s created a robotic duck that’s programmed to detect the flash from nearby cameras and respond by taking pictures of it’s own. The photos can then be printed out on the spot, or uploaded via wifi.

The “Magical Image Digesting Duck” is part of the Dewar’s underwritten “Tourists and Travelers” exhibit going on now through July 19th at the Eyebeam Studios in New York City. Choi will also be leading an expedition (open to the public) with the duck from the Eyebeam Studios to Central Park this Saturday starting at 2:30pm.
