Need A Status Update? There’s An App For That

There is a subtle urge inside our social networking brains to constantly update our progress–no matter how relevant or newsworthy that status may be.

Intended to aid those “imaginatively challenged” is Generatus, a new application that generates your social networking status for Facebook or Twitter.

The app works using two basic criteria: name and sex. These general selections then generate a status update, pulling from an existing tag cloud.

In what seems to be taking on the “random button” model embraced by Chatroulette, the results are often humorous and nonsensical, offering an interesting portrayal of what we deem vital in a hyperactive, real-time world.
