Art Installation Creates Music Out Of Living Creatures’ Movements

By Naresh Kumar on June 8, 2010

Quiet Ensemble is a creative studio, founded by Fabio Di Salvo and Bernardo Vercelli, that combines art, technology and nature to create music. Their latest art installation is Quintetto which took third place at the International Contemporary Art Prize – Celesteprize” in Berlin. Quintetto captures the casual movements of fish as an input to produce sounds. The installation consists of 5 vertical aquariums holding a fish each, with a video camera recording their movements which are then translated into digital sounds through computer software, thus creating an atmosphere of a live concert with different musical instruments. The basic concept behind Quintetto is, as the creators themselves put it, to reveal the invisible concerts of everyday life.
