US Army Building A Massive Hybrid Airship

By Naresh Kumar on June 18, 2010

Northrop Grumman Corporation is building a hybrid airship weapons system for the U.S. Army. The Long Endurance Multi-Intelligence Vehicle (LEMV) is basically a long duration unmanned aerial vehicle which can stay aloft at altitudes of 20,000 feet for more than three weeks. The LEMV will be larger than a football field and will provide continuous surveillance and reconnaissance for the Army’s existing ground command centers to facilitate flight and ground control operations. The company has to develop this massive airship within 18 months for military assessment.
