Multi-Use Bridge Concept Combines Roads And A Massive Park
Architect William Badrick believes that the proposed Columbia River Crossing Bridge between Portland Oregon and Vancouver Washington could be these cities’ “Golden Gate Bridge,” and suggests covering the entire span with a green canopy to make it a public park for locals and tourists. But that’s not all, as Badrick says the green roof will have more than just an aesthetic presence; unlike conventional bridges, it won’t require expensive rainwater treatment facilities which will help minimize costs. He envisions the bridge to have lanes for vehicles, light rail and throughways to support all kinds of transportation mediums and the roof to be in the form of a curved cap to give an aerodynamic shape to the structure for a better wind performance.
