Thrift Stores Rising Gain Public Awareness This Black Friday Season

By Naresh Kumar on November 26, 2010

Come this Black Friday season (that starts tomorrow) and you would perhaps be surprised to see secondhand and thrift stores dazzling with attractive window displays and opening for extended shopping hours. These and some others such as promoting gift certificates are the new marketing schemes resale stores have borrowed from mainstream retailers and are incorporating in their own, previously bland looking shops.

Associated Press reports on how some Salvation Army resale shops including those in San Diego will be opening their shutters as early as six in the morning and offering huge early-bird discounts on its items to lure-in more shoppers. And surprisingly, its not just the lower and middle income groups, but even wealthy consumers who are embracing branded items at a discounted price.

The National Association of Resale & Thrift Shops has said that resale shops will see a sharp rise in sales this season, suggesting that people are increasingly looking at thrift stores as an attractive option to shop for holiday gifts.
