4D Phones Offer A Multisensory Experience
Design researcher Fabian Hemmert has unveiled three cellphone concepts that simulate a “four-dimensional” experience for its users. One phone replicates touch by using a small motor attached to a cord that applies pressure to the back of the user’s hand, another simulates moisture using a wet sponge inside of the phone that presses against the user’s lips, and the third phone blows a puff of air onto the user’s neck or ear.
DVICE reports:
The physicality of telecommunications will be very important in the future. [Hammert] envisions a world where people will send a kiss over their cellphones instead of a text message. Imagine that, making out with a piece of machinery instead of a real person — not strange at all.
