Personal Genome Machine Enables Rapid And Cost Effective DNA Sequencing

Ion Torrent’s Personal Genome Machine (PGM) is a printer-sized DNA sequencing device that uses disruptive semiconductor technology to allow for rapid sequencing. Unlike sophisticated and expensive conventional machines, the PGM is a lightweight and cost-effective gadget that enables more scalability in sequencing tests. It contains a series of semiconductor sensors that measure the hydrogen ions produced during DNA replication and then performs direct translation of genetic information of the DNA into its digital version.

The Personal Genome Machine features an iPhone dock and a touchscreen interface and boasts of a faster DNA sequencing result than most conventional sequencers.
