The Noun Project

The Noun Project was created with the challenge of ‘sharing, celebrating and enhancing the world’s visual language.’ It provides an organized, free and constantly growing collection of the highly-recognized symbols that form the world’s visual language, and allows for everyone to share them in fun, meaningful way. According to the project’s creators;

We think a language that can be understood by all cultures and people is a pretty amazing thing. We also think our symbols and the objects or ideas they represent are works of art worth celebrating.

Beyond being aesthetically pleasing, and offering an interesting challenge to see if you can accurately identify what each symbol means, before reading the description – we also think the project could provide some interesting observations and insights, if it grows globally. For instance, are there any nuanced differences in symbols by country? Does each symbol mean the same thing across nationalities, or are they interpreted differently? This could offer cultural anthropologists a ‘Rorschach test’ of sorts.

Additionally and separately, could there be room for brand icons on this project?
