Umbrella Stand Doubles As Platform To Grow Indoor Plants

The ‘Green Trace’ project by designer Junjie Zhang is a novel umbrella stand that features a mesh base and pre-sowed seeds. When a wet umbrella is held against this stand, water drips down to feed the embedded seeds and grow them into small indoor plants.

Zhang says that as time passes, the pattern of the green trace will change and start indicating the user’s habits, with the spots he most frequently rests the umbrella developing into the most green ones.
